The 1925 Brewing Co., Restaurant is a microbrewery and restaurant founded in November 2013 and officially began operations on 22 May 2014. It is housed in a two storey shophouse where four 600-litres beer tanks reside on the ground level. A family venture that believes in preserving their heritage and culture with the hope to pass the business down to generations, it is currently managed by three members of the Yeo family, brothers Ivan and Eng Kuang, and their uncle, Yeo King Joey.

The establishment’s name, The 1925, is the birth year of their grandfather, who was a dry goods grocer. Providing customers with the best quality products was something he believed strongly in and with this very same principle, The 1925 Brewing Co., Restaurant went about its business till today.

 

The business embraces the spirit of crafting in both food and beer while being open to ideas and innovations. It crafts its beer meticulously and passionately with stories behind the beers’ names. For example, the names of signature beers such as Yellow Van pale ale, is derived from the grandfather’s yellow van which was used to transport goods, and Small Monster dark ale, is derived from the nickname given to King Joey.

Apart from the crafted beers conceptualised from the family’s stories, the numerous experimentations with western cuisine and local flavors while incorporating their Teochew roots led to dishes such as Mr. Loh Ba Loh Ba, a braised pork belly local delight and the inclusion of dried sole fish for the rempah used in Chilli Crab Ravioli. Eventually, their efforts culminated in the form of beer-inspired food where derivatives from their brewing process are incorporated into the recipes.

 

The beer-inspired creations are especially evident in their pastas, which are handmade using the same grains from brewing their beers. For the smoked duck fettuccine, the duck meat is smoked with spent wort and oak, giving it a unique flavor while the seasonal clams fettuccine is tossed in smoked cream and Teochew bean sauce. In addition, The 1925 Brewing Co., Restaurant came up with special beer reduction glazes for grilled meat, enhancing the flavor. Such dishes are the first-of-its-kind and have become the establishment’s unique selling point.

 

At The 1925 Brewing Co., Restaurant, food experimentation and craft evolution is a constant affair to introduce new creations to the table. To cement its position as the craftiest brewery in Singapore, The 1925 Brewing Co. Restaurant will preserve its history while embracing the future. “We are firm believers of craft and our creations are extensions of this belief,” muses Ivan.  “As a truly local brewery, we also strive to fly Singapore’s flag high and show that the craft culture, in its entirety, is strong in this part of the world too.”
